Check out the specs on the Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1.
NI Audio Kontrol 1 is a 2-input 4-output bus-powered audio interface. The tough yet lustrous external appearance of the AK1 is attributed to metallic and shiny black plastic make, which gives it an attractive look. The AK1 has compact dimensions and easily fits into your laptop bag. An aluminum case is provided for carrying the AK1, which ensures damage-free transit and is not too heavy as well.
The front panel of the unit is occupied by audio inputs, level controls, mode buttons, and headphone output, which ensures easy access to these controls. In addition to this, the front panel is also provided with four knobs for controlling the balanced outputs which appear on the back side. These knobs act as universal controls and are able to control sound output levels of the headphones and level of direct monitoring. The ‘Mono’ button switches in direct monitoring, routing input signals straight to one of the stereo outputs, which is particularly useful when there is only one input in use.
The mounting surface of the AK1 is the control panel incorporating a main controller knob and three buttons which are not only regulators but carry instructions as well. MIDI messages or single-keystroke messages can be sent from the keyboard via these controls. The diversified functions of the controls make them compatible in forming unique combinations with other controls. All together, up to ten functions are executed by the controller knob and the three buttons.
The AK1 delivers premium sound quality as a result of its capability of allowing sampling up to 192 kHz. It also incorporates the world class Cirrus Logic AD/ DA converters. The AK1 records and monitors sound very efficiently.
AK1 works on the three software packages, each of which is meant for a different application. Native Instruments Traktor 3 LE is ideally suited for laptop DJs, guitar amps and cabinet combinations are suited for the guitar players, and the Xpress Keyboards comprise of the versions of the B4, FM7 and PRO-53 synths. Xpress Keyboards and Guitar Combos do not go with Intel Mac comps, however.
AK1 is very easy to install. The software is installed through a CD.In order to begin using it, you need to install it first, then restart your computer before linking the device to it; once linked it is ready to use. Broadband connection is mandatory for software activation. I had an easy go when I connected the interface to my Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz capacity with OS X 10.5.3.
As many as three software applications, diverse controls, strong built and monitor switching facilities make this audio interface suitable for guitarists, DJs and stage performers. Incorporating world class facilities, the Audio Kontrol 1 from Native Instruments is an impressive audio interface to own.
