September 18th, 2011 · No Comments · Anime News

Friday the 13th TV series is an American-Canadian horror TV series that ran from 1987-1990 in first run syndication with a total of 72 episodes. The series was originally going to be called the 13th hour but the producer thought this would turn away viewers and instead took on the name Friday the 13th.

Even though it shared the same name as the popular movie series there were no connections to the original storyline. The Premise of the Friday the 13th movie was about an antiques dealer who made a deal with the devil to sell cursed antiques out of his shop.

Each episode was opened with these ominous lines…

“Lewis Vendredi made a deal with the devil to sell cursed antiques. But he broke the pact, and it cost him his soul. Now, his niece Micki, and her cousin Ryan have inherited the store… and with it, the curse. Now they must get everything back and the real terror begins.”

After Lewis broke his pact with the devil the devil came back for his soul and Cousins Micki and Ryan were left the cursed antique shop. Before they realize the shop is cursed they sell of many of the antiques and then realize the error and set out on an adventure to get back the cursed items. Each week was a search for a different item with many supernatural complications along the way.

This was the central theme of the Friday the 13th series. In the brief three season run the main characters were pitted against murderous bees, killer coins and on several occasions the spirit of the man that started it all.

Although this series had a short run it is still occasionally shows as part of the sci-fi channel special events. Although the show never gained widespread popularity it had a small but loyal market share.

Friday the 13th the TV series also received two Emmy’s for visual effects as well as nominations for other categories.

The four main stars of the show were Louise Robey who played “Micki”, John D. LeMay who played “Ryan”, Steve Monarque who played “Johnny” and Chris Wiggins who played “Jack”.

Even though the show has long since been off the air it still has a cult following of fans who communicate online. There are many websites and chat groups set up all across the internet dedicated to the Friday the 13th TV series. People have also written and produced virtual 4th seasons online.

Season 1 Friday the 13th TV series DVD release was in September 2008. Season 2 was released in April of 2009 with the following 20 episodes including season 3 being released in September of 2009.
