pHalloween has always been a period of time when we allow ourselves to get away from the status quo and open our minds to the possibilities of the irrational. We entertain the reality that there may be spirits haunting our world for one explanation or another. We are permitted for this day to have fun and step outside of what we view as normal. Also known as All Hallows Eve, on this holiday kids dress up in their costumes and roam around the neighborhood, door to door, looking for candy from gracious givers. And then theres the adults, some having quiet nights sitting by the front door passing out candy and others preparing for lavish Halloween parties. What if instead of the normal Halloween activities you were presented that chance to do something different?/p
pDo people really believe that ghosts or spirits are roaming this world? For most people the answer is no. Yet despite that, there are places where strong claims are still made to this day that real hauntings are still taking place at these places. So why not try to encounter some of these Ghosts at these places and do something atypical this year? Why not discover some of these locations on the the most frightening day of the year? If youre in the areas of Myrtle Beach, St Augustine or the Florida Keys you should yield these ghostly attractions a shot, maybe youll encounter something fascinating there that is more than just your imagination./p
pThe Dark Side Of Myrtle Beach/p
pMyrtle Beach, is an attraction that is very distinctive and guests and residents really get a unique experience. There is a place called the Ghosts and Legends Theater that has a secret wall where you enter into a world where you encounter 4 ghosts represented in human form. You can do this any day of the year. Youll notice that these ghosts have their own stories and names including Sonny Jim (a slave ghost), Alice of Hermitage, Edward Teach or Blackbeard, or even a ghost who warns of coming hurricanes called The Grey Man./p
pThey offer special Halloween activities on the day of October 31st, but the real busy time of the year is actually the summertime because of where it is located. In addition to the theatre performances and walking tours that are offered, there is trick-or-treating for the children. The Halloween decorations are completely appropriate and set the stage for a truly scary atmosphere that is kind of fun this time of year./p
pSt. Augustine is getting scary!/p
pSince St Augustine is one of the most haunted places in the country, seemingly because it is the oldest city, the Ghost Tours of St Augustine is a most appropriate attraction to visit on Halloween where ghost walks and other themed activities are available. The most well-known spirit on the tour is Osceola, the ghost of an old Seminole chief. Tricked into believing that there was going to be a truce he was captured and held in Castillo de San Marcos during the Second Seminole War. Fort Moultrie, in South Caroline was where he ended up being transferred after his capture to avoid the outrage that had ensued. He died there in 1838 of Malaria./p
pHis documented hauntings at Castillo de San Marcos are aforementioned to be the consequence of what occurred after his death. Frederick Weedon, an Army doctor, detached his head and embalmed it. In 1885 this head was entered into the collection at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, but that was not before it was lost and then found again. The legend goes that since Osceolas head was so mistreated and traveled so much after his death, his spirit became restless and so now he haunts Castillo de San Marcos. See if you can find the Spirit of Osceola this Halloween by making the journey to a ghostly tour./p
pThe Florida Keys/p
pIf you happen to end up in Key West in the Florida Keys this Halloween, you might want to check out their annual Fantasy Fest (not recommended for kids) In addition to the fun events this festival presents there are opportunities to take ghost walks and tours for those looking to be haunted on Halloween. Furthermore people can visit Tonys Saloon which was a morgue between 1852 and 1875 in addition to being a stop for pirates and other questionable individuals./p
pAlso present in the Florida Keys is Fort Zachary Taylor where a yellow fever epidemic swept through in 1862 and killed hundreds of Union soldiers. When a civil engineer named Howard England was excavating the site in the 1960s he claimed the ghost of Wendell Gardner, a Civil War soldier, appeared before him and pointed him toward another excavation site. Luck had it that the ghost (or maybe Mr Englands intuition depending on your beliefs), was pointing towards what eventually became the biggest civil war weapons collection ever found. The Gardner family later confirmed that Wendell was in fact a Civil War soldier that perished during the yellow fever epidemic that swept through the fort. The tour is called The Haunting of Fort Zachary Taylor and if you take this tour both Howard England and Wendell Gardner are supposedly the ghosts that will be haunting you./p
pIf you truly desire to run into a ghost, there are really only a few opportunities out there. If you really want to experience something that is amazing and also very unique this Halloween, head down to one of these places and let you friends go the usual trick-or-treating route. All 3 of these locations provide many wonderful options and lodging accommodations, dozens of stunning hotels and a title=bluegreenonline href=http://www.bluegreentimeshareblog.comBluegreen timeshare/a options. There are several locations, tales and tours that could put you in touch with the 4th kind and modify what you believed before to only be fictional, and what better time to embark into the obscure than on Halloween./p
